Today I thought I’d write about something important.

No, I’m not referring to the awful dilemma I faced yesterday when forced to choose between the blue dress and the purple dress (though that was dramatic). This is something even more important.

‘What could be more important?’ you ask. Let me give you a clue. It starts with ‘b’, and it ends with ‘logging’. No, I’m not talking about deforestation in the Amazon (though that is important).

I’m talking about blogging.

Blogging = Customers

When done right, blogging is one of the most important marketing tools you can invest in to help your business grow and flourish. There are several benefits your business will enjoy from blogging, but when you strip all the nitty-gritty away, you will find that blogging is a powerful tool for achieving one vital thing: attracting and retaining customers.

And we all want that, right?

1) Build Customer Trust & Loyalty

Want customer trust and loyalty? It’s time you started blogging!

By regularly sharing helpful and interesting information, news, and tips with your readers via your blog, you will build their trust in you. Giving them information and tips for free will make your readers feel that you care about them, and that you don’t just want to shove products and services down their throat. This trust will foster loyalty to you and your brand, making them more likely to choose you when they need or want whatever awesome service or product it is that you offer.

Ok, let’s be honest. Shoving products and services down their throat is probably still what you want to do. But by blogging, you can achieve this more subtly, leaving your customers feeling happier about parting with their big bucks because they’ll be giving those big bucks to someone they trust – you!

2) Be the Expert, Get the Customer

Did you take your kid to the dentist when they broke their leg? No. You visited the doctor. Why? Because the doctor is the broken leg expert.

If you want people to choose you, you need to establish yourself in their minds as the expert in your field. The most effective way to do this is through blogging. By regularly posting informative content on your site, you are demonstrating to your readers that you know what you are talking about. When they next need the service or product that you offer, they’ll come to you to get it. Why? Because you’re the expert.

3) Engage & Attract Customers & Win With Social Media

Interesting, informative, helpful blog posts engage existing customers as readers leave comments and return to your site to read your next post. They will also attract social media love, as your readers choose to “share” your blog post via social media with all their friends and followers. This will attract new customers to your site, and, in turn, attract them to your services/products.

4) Improve SEO

As you can see, when you blog, you’ll get a whole heap of customer loving and engagement. But guess what. There are still more benefits to blogging. That’s right – more!

Regular blogging will improve your Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) in several ways. By improving your SEO, you will climb the rankings for keyword searches. And that means one thing – you will attract even more customers.

Blogging can help you target keywords you are trying to rank for, especially phrases and questions that potential customers will be looking for. As people share your articles, blogging can also help you to build quality “backlinks” to your site. These links will improve your site’s “authority”, boosting your rankings for Google searches.

Because regular blogging involves creating fresh content for your site, your blog will also tell Google that your website is relevant and up-to-date, thereby improving your keyword search rankings
